Trabajadores de Shougang Hierro Perú inician huelga

LIMA (Reuters) - Los trabajadores de Shougang Hierro Perú, la única productora del mineral de hierro en el país, iniciaron el martes una huelga por tiempo indefinido en reclamo de mejoras laborales, dijo a Reuters un dirigente sindical.

La empresa, controlada por Shougang Group de China, produjo el año pasado 7,01 millones de toneladas de hierro en un yacimiento en la sureña región de Ica, según cifras del Ministerio de Energía y Minas.

"Confirmado, vamos para adelante con la huelga", dijo Julio Ortiz, secretario general del sindicato de trabajadores de Shougang Hierro Perú, al ser consultado vía telefónica sobre el inicio de la medida de fuerza.

El paro de labores comenzó a las 8.00 hora local (1300 GMT) para demandar un alza de 10 soles (unos 4 dólares) al salario básico diario, explicó Ortiz. La firma ha ofrecido un incremento de 2 soles, agregó.

Los trabajadores piden además la nivelación de sueldos a más de 700 trabajadores que perciben un salario por debajo de 50 soles diarios.

Las ganancias netas de Shougang Hierro Perú crecieron un 50 por ciento interanual el año pasado, a 1.227,8 millones de soles, por un alza de sus ventas de hierro.

En una huelga anterior los trabajadores de Shougang en Perú paralizaron labores por casi un mes, entre agosto y septiembre del 2011, también en demanda de un alza salarial y mejores condiciones laborales.

En ese momento, Shougang declaró fuerza mayor -una medida que la exime de sus obligaciones contractuales- sobre sus envíos del metal.

No hubo disponible algún portavoz de la empresa para comentar la situación.

Perú es un importante productor de metales y su sector minero es clave para la economía del país, dado que aporta cerca del 60 por ciento de los ingresos por exportaciones.

Apple Shares Hit Correction Territory: ‘The Pie Is Almost Baked’

Shares are also on pace to close below the 50-day moving average for the third day in a row, a development chart watchers say could spell more trouble ahead.

Apple is scheduled to report quarter results on Oct. 25.

Apple previously suffered through a slump six months ago, falling 17% from peak to trough in April and May. But the stock recovered amid the hype and anticipation that built ahead of the iPhone 5 release.

Even now, plenty of bullish observers are suggesting this pullback represents a great opportunity for investors to buy the dips.

“We believe concerns are overdone and this appears to be a typical consolidation after a big run,” Shaw Wu, an analyst at Sterne Agee, said in a note to clients. “From our supply chain checks, demand remains robust with improving production and the bottleneck moving to assembly of the iPhone 5 itself vs. component constraints.”

Credit Suisse also reiterated its bullish stance on the company. “Apple remains well positioned with a privileged advantage in the computer market and will be able to maintain momentum across key product lines driven by continued innovation in hardware, software and services,” Credit Suisse analyst Kulbinder Garcha wrote to clients, while reiterating an outperform rating and $750 price target.

For now, though, Apple’s drag is hurting the broad market. The tech-heavy Nasdaq’s 1.5% decline today is outpacing the Dow and S&P 500′s declines. Tech is the worst-performing sector on Tuesday, with Google Microsoft Oracle Hewlett-Packard and Cisco all trading lower.

“Markets are getting a bit dangerous as tech continues to get hit,” says Scott Redler, chief strategic officer at T3 Live.
