1. EGYPT FACES TURMOIL OVER VOTE

A referendum this week on an Islamist-leaning draft constitution divides the country, with President Mohammed Morsi and his Islamist backers in one camp; secularists and leftists in the other.

2. GREECE EXTENDS DEBT BUYBACK OFFER

Greece said Monday it would extend by one day its offer to buy back tens of billions of euros of debt—a move demanded by the country's official creditors in exchange for fresh aid—after initial offers last week fell short of target.

3. LITTLE IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED FOR MCDONALD'S SALES

More disappointment is expected on the menu at McDonald's: All eyes will be on November same-store sales, but not much has changed at the burger giant or in the economy since October.

6. COURT DATE IN HOTEL MAID'S SUIT VS. STRAUSS-KAHN

The outcome of a New York City hotel housekeeper's sexual assault lawsuit against former International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn may soon be decided in court. Lawyers for both are to meet at 2 p.m. Monday for a key court date to update a judge on the status of settlement discussions. The maid, Nafissatou Diallo, is expected to be there, but Mr. Strauss-Kahn isn't.

7. OPEL CONFIRMS BOCHUM CLOSURE IN 2016

General Motors ruled out any last-minute reprieve for the Bochum car factory in Germany owned by its Adam Opel unit, as the worsening slump in the European auto market has made the restructuring of GM's unprofitable car activities in the region more urgent.

8. FAMILY MASSACRE AT INDIAN RESERVATION

California police say a man killed his mother, 8-year-old daughter and two uncles before dying in a shootout with police.

9. MYSTERY OF NELSON MANDELA'S ILLNESS

Los mercados en EE.UU. abren con leves alzas tras avances de McDonald's

NEW YORK- Las acciones en Estados Unidos registraban leves alzas el lunes, mientras los inversionistas analizan el cambio de liderazgo en Italia y esperan señales de avances en las negociaciones para evitar el abismo fiscal en EE.UU.

El Promedio Industrial Dow Jones subía 25 puntos, o 0,2%, a 13.181. El índice ascendió 81 puntos el viernes y cerró la semana con su tercer avance semanal consecutivo.

El Standard & Poor's 500 ascendía un punto, o menos de 0,1%, a 1.420, mientras que el Compuesto Nasdaq avanzaba nueve puntos, o 0,3%, a 2.987.

En el Dow, McDonald's MCD +0.89% registraba los mayores avances con un alza de 1,5%, luego que sus ventas en tiendas comparables crecieran más de lo esperado en noviembre, tras declinar en octubre.

Apple perdía 2% luego que analistas de Jefferies mostraran poco entusiasmo por la acción y rebajaran su precio indicativo en US$100 a US$800, mostrando reservas frente a la presión sobre los márgenes de ganancias.

En tanto, los mercados europeos se recuperaban de mínimos previos. El índice Stoxx Europe 600 retrocedía 0,2% luego que el primer ministro italiano Mario Monti anunciara que piensa renunciar tras la aprobación del presupuesto para 2013.

Monti era visto como crucial para que su país se embarcara en una senda de austeridad. El índice italiano FTSE Mib declinaba 0,9%, tras caer más de 3% previamente en la sesión.

Por otro lado, la próxima semana podría ser clave para que Washington llegue a un acuerdo sobre el abismo fiscal de alzas tributarias y recortes de gastos.

No se publicarán indicadores importantes el lunes.
